Do You Want To Be Self-Employed Or Do You Want To Be A Business Owner?

There are a lot of you out there who are thinking about starting your own business.  You may have a great idea and you are ready to put your plan into action.  But before your start your new venture, let me ask you this.  Do you want to be self-employed or do you want to be a business owner? I some of you are thinking that they are both the same and I assure you that they are not.  Here is the difference between the two.

Self-Employed

When you are self employed you wear all of the hats.  You are the creator, the bookkeeper, the marketing director, customer service representative, and the owner.  You are the only one available for questions and complaints.  When you are not working most of the time, no money will be made.  There are some businesses that do not require you to be working all of the time and you can still be considered to be self-employed and making money.  In short when you are self-employed you are the business.

Business Owner

When you are a business owner, you own the business.  There are people in place to take some of the load off of you.  You don’t have to handle all of the duties yourself.  You can hire a bookkeeper and a marketing director so that you will be free to create.  When you are a business owner, the business will still run whether you are there or not.

So when you are thinking about starting your own business, ask yourself do I want to be self-employed or do I want to be a business owner?
